Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is an evolving profession worldwide which work for the benefit and rehabilitation of the differently able individuals. Physiotherapy means physiotherapeutic system of medicine which includes examination, treatment, advice and instructions to any person preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement dysfunction, body malfunction, physical disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, physical and mental conditions using physical agents including exercise, mobilization, manipulation, mechanical and electrotherapy, activity and devices or diagnosis, treatment and prevention. It is a health care profession which enables an individual to do what he needs to do and wants to do. Physiotherapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of performance in a variety of environment to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well being, and quality of life.
Physiotherapy training was introduced in India in the year of 1952. This health service is one of the most popular and sought after treatment in western countries. Although it has been more than five decades since its introduction in our country the awareness is only gradually but surely growing. It is quite certain that considering the population of the country and the number of therapist produced every year, the profession has a tremendous potential for development in few years to come. |

Bachelor's in Physiotherapy

Scope in Physiotherapy
Higher studies:
The completion of the bachelors' degree course in physiotherapy opens up multiple avenues for further studies. The undergraduate students are eligible for masters in Physiotherapy in India abroad countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand. They are also eligible to do Doctorate in Physiotherapy in USA, India and other Countries. Apart from this students can also pursue studies in varied streams like M.Sc. Anatomy, Physiology, Post Graduate diploma in sports sciences, Hospital Administration etc.

Job Prospects
In India first contact practice and referral practice is possible in physiotherapy.

Admission
Duration of Course:
The duration of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is 4 ½ years followed by 6 months internship. The medium of instruction is English for all the subjects of study and for the examination of BPT course.
Eligibility:
1.1 Qualifying Examination
A Candidate seeking admission to first year Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT):
i) Should have passed two year Pre University examination conducted by Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State, with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
OR
ii) Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards / Councils / Intermediate examination established by State Government / Central Government and recognized as equivalent to a two year Pre University Examination by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
OR
iii) Candidates who have completed Pre-university course with Vocational Physiotherapy as their optional subject are eligible for admission to BPT course.
Marks
The selection of students to a course of Physiotherapy shall be based on merit provided that:
a) In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to BPT course must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination is not less than 40% instead of 45% as above.
Age:
A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31 st December of the year of admission.
Every candidate before admission to the course shall furnish to Principal of the Institution a certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Government Medical Officer to the effect, that the candidate is physically fit to undergo Physiotherapy course.

Admission Fee:

- For NRI / SAARC Students: Rs. 14,000
Draft Payable at Bangalore in the name of "Padmashree Institute of Physiotherapy"
Annual Tuition fees can be paid in two instalments as Rs.30,000 at the commencement of the year and the remaining Rs.30,000 within six months of payment of the first instalment. |
