Nursing involves the care of people throughout the continuum of life and provides an essential service to humankind. As career professionals, nurses improve the quality of health care delivery. There are many positive aspects of being a nurse. There is nothing more rewarding than a patient giving thanks and telling you how much you have helped them. Also, there are so many opportunities and career paths that are available for Nurses. Nursing offers opportunities from bedside practice to the president or top administrator of a healthcare organization. Clinical specialist, nurse practitioner, nurse administrator and nurse educator are just a few examples of the variety of opportunities awaiting you in a nursing career. Nurses are also appointed and elected to influential government positions. If you choose nursing, you will discover a career filled with personal and professional rewards. There will be even more opportunities in the future, as the entire health care system transforms because of new technology, changing population demographics and many other factors. The rise in health care needs, combined with a dwindling supply of nurses and an aging nurse population (the average age is 44), is putting the Nurses in the driver's seat when it comes to the job hunt.
 
Bachelor's in Science Nursing
 
A 4-year program offered at Padmashree College of Nursing, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, that prepare the student to practice across all health care settings. The course of study combines the theory and the practice of nursing, with general education in the humanities and behavioral, biological, and physical sciences. These serve as a core for the development of the nursing major.
 
The BSN program offers students experience in major settings where health care is delivered. As a BSN graduate, you have the greatest opportunity for advancement. A BSN is required for entry into a Master's Degree in nursing program that prepares you for leadership, management and more independent roles, such as clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, educator and researcher. A BSN is preferred and often required for military nursing, case management, public health nursing, overseas/development nursing, forensic nursing and school nursing. The Indian Nursing Council and Karnataka Nursing Council recognize this course offered at Padmashree.
 
Purpose:
 
The goal of B.Sc. Nursing programme is to prepare nurses who are able function efficiently and effectively, as a member of health care team and who is qualified to meet the nursing needs of the people in the society. The nurse is competent to practice in the home, hospital outpatient clinic, work place, school and community. The programme provides a basis for further development and continued learning of the graduate.

Nursing is believed to be an evergreen profession as old generation is already at the edge of retirement and welcoming newer generation to fill the gaps and take up different positions- There is constant move towards upliftment of profession.
Graduates of the M.Sc and B.Sc (nursing) are qualified to work as registered nurses in a wide variety of settings include hospitals, multilevel care facilities, community agencies (home care, public health) as well as psychiatric/ mental health settings. There is ample opportunity for the fresh graduates to start their career in the teaching profession which will help them to be specialized themselves in their Master programme.Our college in its yet another pioneer going to start with the Ph.D. Programme.
 
Placement details:
Placement assistance is provided with in the college campus. Our students are recruited through campus interview conducted by the reputed hospitals such as Fortis and other specialty hospitals like NU Hospital, Apollo hospitals, etc.
Many are placed in leading hospitals such as Narayana Hridyalaya, Bangalore, Indraprastha Apollo hospitals, New Delhi etc.
At the end of the course, an orientation program is being organized to assist students in getting placements abroad.

Academic: (Results: 2010 – 2011)
     
  The 9th out gone batch of Bsc Nursing students had secured 100% result with 9 distinctions.
  Bsc nursing 3rd years had secured cent percent result with 26 distinctions.
  The 3rd outgoing MSc Nsg batch (2007-2009) had secured 100% result with 12 distinctions (overall) in second year.
  Ms. Monika Limbu received 2 gold medals in the name of DR. C M Gurumurthy and Sri Kuppuswamy Mudaliar for securing highest marks in overall bsc nursing program in august 2010 examination.
     
Seminars / Conferences
     
  On 8th January 2011 a state Conference on “Application Of Conceptual Models In Nursing Research” was organised at padmashree college of nursing.
  In March 2010, a state conference on ‘TIE in Nursing Research’ was organised..
  A Journal club presentations were conducted by the PG faculties and students under the guidance of H.O.D’S.
  World stroke day was celebrated by the faculties and msc nursing students of Medical Surgical Nsg Dept on the theme ‘One In Six - Act Now’ on 29th October 2010, and pamphlets on stroke and its prevention was distributed to local inmates of Nagarabhavi, Bangalore.
  Child Health Nsg Dept conducted a presentation on Shaken Baby Syndrome and contemporary Issues In Obstetric Nursing were dealt by OBG Nsg Department.
  Psychiatry Nsg Dept celebrated Alzheimer's Day.
  On 30th Oct 2010, Community project was undertaken by the Msc nursing II year students to create awareness about the importance of nutritious diet for vulnerable groups. The posters, charts, exhibits were displayed and green plants were distributed for the people residing in the sulikere, a rural community area.

  On May 12th International Nurse’s Day was celebrated on the theme “Closing The Gap Increasing The Access and Equity” organised by the SNA office bearers.
  SNA organised and participated in World Red Cross day on May 8th, 2010 and World Environment Day on June 5, 2010.
  In 2010, Final year Students won II prize in Quiz Programme on World Leprosy Day.
     
NSS activities:
     
  Mr. Arun jose, was appointed as the NSS program officer from 16th August 2011.
  Mass health education program was conducted by our IV year Bsc Nursing Students on 22nd July 2011 at Tavarakere PHC for 100 anti natal mothers on antenatal care and immunization. Students participated with the block health officers of the village in conducting the campaign on malaria prevention.
  World health day rally was conducted on 14.07. 2011 by IV year Bsc nursing students at Nagarabhavi and Malleshwaram and Sulikere village of Kengeri on the theme “Antimicrobial Resistance: No Action Today No Cure Tomorrow”
  Final year students participated in school health camp at Hommagatta on 11th June 2010.
  Final year students participated in world leprosy day quiz programme and won prize at Sumanahalli Townhall, Bangalore.
